AUGUST MONTH LONG SKETCH CHALLENGE on Let's Scrap :-)

Wednesday, August 3, 2011

Hi there ladies, can you believe it, not only is the month of August on us, but we are already in day 3.  For us here in South Africa, it means the last month of winter, then spring is upon us.  And I bet, I am not the only one looking forward to spring and summer.  Then of course we are also in the last part of the year, from here on it is downwards towards Christmas and our summer holiday :-)

Along with a new month, comes a new challenge for us on Let's Scrap.

Becky Fleck from Pagemaps is letting Let's Scrap feature this awesome sketch for the month of August!!!!!

By making a layout based on the above sketch, and posting it to the gallery by August 31st, you stand a change to win the following from the stunning South African company

They has generously donated one of their printers trays filled with la-petite enmarc goodies as the prize for this challenge. The tray can be painted then assembled or visa versa.

Enmarc is a South African Arts and Craft Manufacturer.  We opened our doors 8 years ago to supply the South African scrapbooking and card making industry with locally manufactured embellishments.  The idea was to supply mostly “Afrikaans” words, sayings and embellishments - unique to South Africa, its culture, history and people - as these could not be imported.  But soon we changed our outlook as the requests to translate our products into English came in so thick and fast that we had no choice, but to listen.  Hence that once we designed a product we had to design the English version of it too.

Our main line of products include our whiteboard chippies, Rub-ons, brads, half pearls, craft glue, stencils, acrylic products, silk flowers, printer trays.  Our whiteboard chippies are very versatile, as it can be painted, chalked, distressed and inked with ease. No need to ink or paint layer upon layer to get rid of that ugly grey anymore. One layer is enough to show the colors vibrant and bright as it should be. The whiteboard is also perfect for the soft pastel colors or just that light “tint” to add that special effect to your craft project.

Unfortunately we do not supply directly to the public, but you are more than welcome to check out our catalogue at http://www.enmarc.co.za/ (Trade enquiries are welcome).  Also on our main page you can follow the links to our Facebook page, and our brand new community site to see what some of our clients and friends are doing with the Enmarc goodies.  On our community site http://enmarc.ning.com/ you can see our Design team in action – you should be able to recognize some of them as they are also active participants on Lets Scrap. We are very proud of our DT – these ladies are pulling out all the stops to play with the products we are sending them and in the process, creating some stunning LO’s. Plenty of inspiration and ideas these ladies are dishing up.

Here is what you have to do to get your name in the draw for this fabulous prize.
  1. Scrap a layout using Becky's wonderful sketch as inspiration.  You can do a two page layout or you can pick either side and do a one page layout.
  2. You are welcome to do as many layouts as you wish using the sketch but your name will only go in the draw for the first one you posted. If it was a 1 page layout your name will go in once and if it was a 2 page layout it will go in twice.
  3. This challenge cannot be combined with any other challenge going on in the group.
  4. Upload your layout in the gallery by midnight August 31st (by the main page clock)

Live. Love. Grow. Enjoy. Imagine. Create.

This week is the first week of the new Design Team at Let's Scrap.  We have all been busy since Monday to get into the game of being a DT member.  And I must say, it is really awesome and I love it so far!

This week's sketch at Let's Scrap is the sketch we did for our DT application.

After about two weeks' struggling and not sure if what I did was good enough, this is what I came up with.

I used one of Kaisercrafts, Q8 ranges called Chapter One.  All the embellishments, rub-ons, title and paper came from this range.  I tried to not over embellish, due to the fact that my main focus was the pictures and the paper had enough pattern on that could be used as embellishing.  I also did not use a large title, I simply used the word "Live", which was part of the rubons for this range, and then I added the rest of the quote, also from the rub-on, but just alot smaller above the main photo.  I felt that these words are appropriate for the layout!  It reads as follows:

Live.  Love.  Grow.  Enjoy.  Imagine.  Create

Life isn't about waiting.....................

I recently had pictures done of myself and when I saw this sketch on Let's Scrap that was done by Cheri, I knew that I had the perfect pictures for this layout.

What was also awsome is that the brand new Kaisercraft arrived in the post about the same time as the sketch.  It was like it was meant to be :-)

I really enjoyed making this layout, below is my take on the sketch.

Let's Scrap Sketch 7-27-11

This week's sketch on Let's Scrap is another stunning sketch by Cheri O'Neill.

When I saw the layout sketch, I really wanted to do it, but I was not sure what pictures to use.  Finally, after going through all the printed pics I had, as I am trying to first scrap the printed pics I have before printing new ones, I decided on these pictures.  They were taken at the Cannonball Run Africa from 2010.  I realised then that this year's CBR is upon us (more about this later), but I have not scrapped last year's pics :-(

Luckily I had already picked the paper a few months ago, but I could never get a layout to match the pictures.  I then end it was a fun layout, but I battled a bit with the embellishing.  The BoBunny paper was very busy, but for some reason other paper from the range just did not want to work, so even though I was a bit hesitant, in the end it came out awesome.  I then decided to keep the embellishing to the bare minimum.

Lastly there was the struggle to get the right title.......................................  After a lot of forward and backward I decided on "it's a guy thing..."  I think the pictures speak for themselves and the reason for the title is clear :-)

I wrote this post last week already, but realised now that I never actually posted it :-(

Going to work European Style :-)

I love it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

After months of planning, the North-South line of the Gautrain was finally opened this morning!!!!!!!!!!!!!  What an awesome day the 2nd of August 2011 was and still is.  It will definitely be a day for the history books.  And the best part of it, I was part of it!!!!!!!!!!!!!  What an awesome feeling :-)

I took the train at Sandton station at 6h36 and at 7h06 I stopped at Hatfield.  No traffic, no taxis, no being cut off on the road!  This is the future!!!!!!!!!!!

Here are some pics I took this morning, enjoy!
