A while back the administrators at Let's Scrap made some changes to the site. One of the changes they made was to bring in some tutorials. This way the members get to be reminded of some old techniques, that have long been forgotten about and then also see some awesome new techniques. So one week it is time for a DT Challenge (my challenge is coming up this Friday, so have a look out) and the following week it is time for a DT Tutorial. Last week Friday, was my turn to host a tutorial.

LET'S SCRAP DT TUTORIAL #29: HEAT EMBOSSING

While looking through the Let's Scrap gallery the past two weeks, I realised there were not a lot of layouts with stamping, and even less layouts with heat embossing. So I decided to do a tutorial on heat embossing.

First of all you will need some tools. These include the following:

the stamp you are wanting to use;
an acrylic block (if you are using acrylic stamps);
distress ink;
embossing powder; and
heat gun

In order to some stamping with heat embossing, hear are the steps to follow:

Place your stamp on the acrylic block and ink the stamp. Transparent Versa Mark ink is great to use when you do not want the ink to show, such as when you are using light coloured embossing powder (thank you Eniko).
Stamp on the paper you have decided to use.

Immediately after you have stamped the image you need to sprinkle a thick layer of embossing powder over the stamped area, such that it covers the area adequately. The best way is to have the embossing powder ready before you so your stamping. It is very important to throw the embossing powder over the stamped area while it is still wet.

Once you have sprinkled the embossing powder, you need to "tap off" the extra embossing powder, such that the only powder left is that on the paper where the stamped image is.
You are now ready to use your heat gun :-) Once you have switched it on, place it over the stamped area and watch the image transform from dull to embossed :-)

Once you have embossed your stamped image, you can proceed to use it on your layout or card or any other media.

I love to use it on cards, as well as my chipboard titles for layouts. What's great about using it on chipboard, is that it gives the chipboard a totally different look. The layout I have below is an example where I used heat embossing on chipboard letters and embellishments.

In order to achieve the look above I did the following:

Painted the chipboard letters;
Stamped the images on each letter;
Covered the letters with embossing powder; and
Heated the letters.

You will see there are red patterns on the chipboard letters, these are the embossed sections on each of the letters.

This is really one of my favourite techniques, and so versatile!

LET'S SCRAP SKETCH 1-23-13

This week's sketch at Let's Scrap is another AWESOME sketch and one I really enjoyed using!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The sketch was designed by the very talented Judy Rakes.

The paper I used for this layout is from Simple Stories. I bought this range at the Scrapbook Studio in Jeffrey's Bay over December and I just loved it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I battled a bit with the title but after some careful consideration and LOTS of thinking I came up with "3 Generations in the making". Even though you cannot see it in the pictures, my sister-in-law was also pregnant in these pictures, and it is also a little boy. So there are technically three generations from my husband's side in the photos.

I cut the title with my cricut, using the Storybook cartridge. The flowers and swirl is from Prima, and the metal butterfly from 7Gypsies. the circles on the left hand side of the layout, I cut from one of the Simple Stories pages. Here are some pictures of the detail.

And so the time has come for the card sketch for January, over at Let's Scrap. This week is another beautiful and very versatile sketch designed by the very talented Debby de Wilde.

Here is my take on the sketch :-)

This card is for my brother-in-law and his wife's little boy which will be arriving anytime soon. All the paper I used are from Simple Stories. I really enjoyed making this card and decided to even decorate the inside with a quote and a little embellishment :-)

And so the 2012 Christmas celebration came and went, the 2013 New Year's celebration also came and went and we are all back in the swing of things. Along with all these beginnings and endings, the last sketch of 2012 came and went, along with the first sketch of 2013, and now we are heading into the third week of January 2013 already...................................... I can actually not believe it!!!!!!!!!!! I think that is enough nonsense for one day, let's see what Let's Scrap had in store for us :-)

Here is the last sketch of 2012, along with my interpretation thereof.

I decided to only use the left hand side of the sketch for my layout. The paper I used is from Kaisercraft. I bought the paper about 2 years ago, but really battled to use it. I tried more than once to use it, to no avail, but when I saw these pictures, I just knew this range would work with it. The flowers and doodles are both from Prima. Here are some close-ups of the detail.

For the first sketch of 2013, I also only used the left hand side of the sketch. When doing this layout, it was not only my first layout of 2013, but also the very first time I used Teresa Collins. I really love some of her work, but we don't get a lot of her paper, so I have been wanting to use it for such a long time.

I must be very honest, I battled a bit using the paper, but once I got into it, I thoroughly enjoyed it! The embellishments are from Prima. Here are some pictures of the detail :-)

When I went on maternity leave I thought I would have some time on my hands for scrapbooking. But oh my word, how wrong was I. I hardly got anything done. But luckily I got a few layouts between feeding Jonathan and putting him down for his naps.

Here are the layouts with the sketches from Let's Scrap that I have done in the past two months or so.

For the first layout I used Let's Scrap sketch 5-23-12. The pictures in this layout were taken at our babyshower, they were taken while my dad was saying a few words and I really loved how they turned out! All of the paper and embellishments that I used are from Fancy Pants.

For this layout I used Let's Scrap sketch 8-1-12. I used pictures that were taken on our cruise, at the beginning of 2012, in celebration of our anniversary. The pictures were taken on the night of our 4 year anniversary :-) All the paper and embellishments in the layout are from Prima.

Layout number three was done using Let's Scrap sketch, 9-12-12. The pictures were taken at our maternity photoshoot and the paper and embellishments I used is from Prima.

The last layout I did was done using sketch 6-29-12. I really enjoyed using this sketch and the elements in it. These pictures were also taken at our maternity shoot. The paper in this layout was done using FabScraps paper.

As you can see, there was a bit done, but not nearly as much as I wanted to do.

PAPPA EN EK

Hello, during December 2011 while on holiday I taught some classes at the Scrapbook Studio in Jeffrey's Bay. I thoroughly enjoyed it. But this December, I decided to just have some fun and do a bit of catching up on scrapbooking and going for class myself. Needless to say, I did not get as much done as I would have wanted, but at least got some scrapbooking done.

This layout was greated and taught by Cariena Basson from the Scrapbook Studio. And I must say, I thoroughly enjoyed making this layout and I just LOVE how it turned out!

The layout has two "firsts" attached to it. It is the first layout I have made with my husband and our gorgeous little boy. And secondly, it is the very first time I used Echo Park paper. Like I said above, I thoroughly enjoyed this layout. Now I just need to find a gorgeous frame so I can hang it against the wall :-)

And so on this last day of 2012 I want to share this awesome mini-album that I made at The Scrapbook Studio in Jeffrey's Bay! It is such an awesome album and the best is, you make it from scratch. So you can add as many pages as you want and make it any size :-)

I used the brand new Kaisercraft range - forget-me-not. When I saw the range, I immediately fell in love with it! It is just gorgeous and so versatile!

Now all I need to do is add some pictures and further embellish the album :-)
