SCRAP AFFAIRS ISSUE 23

Wednesday, April 18, 2012

Good morning everyone, I really hope you are having an awesome day so far.

The month it was once again time for the new issue of one of the local South African magazines, namely Scrap Affairs.  Every second month I cannot wait to get the new edition.  Once again this edition is filled with tons of inspiration and some gorgeous layouts.

I am proud to say that not only did they publish one of my layouts, but they also published two of the articles that I wrote.  What an awesome feeling!!!!!!!!!!!

The published one of my pet layouts, along with a little half-a-page article I wrote about the meaning of my pets.  Here is the layout and what it looks like in the magazine!

The article reads as follows:

I am a HUGE pet lover and sometimes I think I love pets (especially my pets) more than humans.

Pets are a part of our everyday life.  They are there when you wake up in the morning and they are there when you get home at night.  They will come to you if you are sick, had a bad day or just need some love.  They do not judge you when they look at you and they NEVER criticize.  It is for these reasons that I think it is important that we honour our pets and show them that we love them by including them in our scrapbooking.

If I have to go through my scrapbooking albums, I have more albums on my pets than some of my human pictures.

When I scrap my pets I don't think of them as pets, I see them as something special.  I put just as much effort and detail (sometimes even more) into my pet layouts.  If I feel sad or down, the first thing I will scrap will be my pets.  Or if I am uninspired and have "scrappers block", then I will also scrap my pets.  It is as if they have a calming effect.  I do not like to use "pet" paper, I will, however use some pet embellishments.  I find that there is really a limited variety of pet paper on the market and really do not find them inspriring at all.  I will use normal paper, e.g. a Kaisercraft or BoBunny range or even Simple Stories to showcase my pet photos.  The reason for this is that those ranges can be used just as well with the pet pictures, than any other paper.

I also love taking pictures of my pets and capturing those special one of a kind moments on camera.  It is not always easy, but sometimes I even scrap the "not so good" pictures, due to the fact that it still represents a special moment in time.

I love my pets to bits.  They are like children to me and I treasure every day I have with them and I would not change that for anything in the world.

The second article that was published in this issue of Scrap Affairs, is an article that I wrote about Let's Scrap and the South African ladies that have been on the Design Teams over the last 10 years.  Here is a picture of the article.

Hope you have an awesome day and scrapbook up a storm!!!!!!!!

SCRAP AFRICA SKETCH CHALLENGE #4

Thursday, April 12, 2012

Morning ladies, can you believe that it is Thursday again?  This was a short week with the Easter holiday on Monday, so only 4 days :-)  Other than that it is time for the new sketch challenge over at Scrap Africa.

Here is this week's sketch, with my take on it.

I really loved working with this sketch, but for me the picture was the problem.  Initially I printed the photo in colour (here is what the original photo looked like).

So as you can see that blue sky is awesome for a day at the beach, but for scrapbooking and matching paper to that photo can be a bit of a nightmare.  In the end I opted to print the picture in black and white.  Along with the black and white picture I really wanted to use the BoBunny, ETCETERA collection I bought in December and have not had a chance to use yet.  All the paper and embellishments are from the same range.  Here are some close-up pictures.

Instead of just sanding the papers, I inked them with Tim Holtz black ink and then did a bit of distressing to give it that mixture between the black and the brown and thereby emphasizing the black and white picture.

Along with the awesome sketch there is of course also some awesome prizes to be won.  Le Shabby Cafe is our sponsor this month for both sketch #4 and challenge #4.  The ladies from Le Shabby Cafe provides their customers with exclusive scrapbooking kits.  These kits are filled with wonderfully coordinated scrapbooking products, which will allow you to create those beautiful projects with ease.

So please head on over to Scrap Africa, where you can see the layouts of the awesome design team, along with our guest designers - Iris Babao Uy, Roulien Stahnke and Elizna Parsons.  You have 3 weeks (until 3 May 2012) to enter your layouts.

Then don't forget that you still have plenty of time to enter your projects into the rainbow challenge.  Please just make sure you familiarise yourself with the rules and follow the requirements of the challenge to avoid disappointment.

Thank you visiting my blog today!

IT HAS BEEN AGES............

Wednesday, April 11, 2012

Oh my word, it has not been days since  my last post is has been weeks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  The last time I posted it was on the 20th of March.  Today, we are on the 11th of April already, and so much has happened since then. And the worst of all, very limited time has been spent on scrapbooking and I am starting to think I am having withdrawal symptons :-(

Within in the next few days, I will hopefully have a bit more time and I will do some blogging and post some of the layouts that I have been making the past month or so (but please, do not hold your breath as these layouts are limited).....................

One good thing that has happened that I can quickly blog about- my package from Fabscraps arrived!!!!!!!!!!! Sadly, I have not been able to use it creatively yet, but just collecting it at the post office and getting home and opening it was an amazing feeling!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Here is a picture of my package :-)

Another awesome thing that has happened today, is Fabscraps now have there own blog - WITH LOVE FROM FABSCRAPS.  It would be awesome if you could head on over and have a look.  They are still getting the hang of things but it will look awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Scrappin regards
