JUST CRUISIN'

Monday, February 10, 2014

Hello there, today I am sharing a layout I made using a sketch from Nuts About Sketches.

Here is my take on the sketch.  I used BoBunny papers for the layout.  The pictures are from the Sunday after Jonathan turned ONE.  My parents bought him a tri-cycle for his first birthday.  Due to the fact that it was to big to take and open at the Spur on his birthday, we went over for lunch and he had a ball opening this BIG box.  The top two pictures were taken of him while he waited for his dad and grand-pa to assemble the tri-cycle, and the bottom three pictures are from his first ride on the tri-cycle.

The flags and banners are all from the BoBunny papers.  I just added some bling and buttons to the banners.

For the title I used some red chipboard stickers that I had in my stash.  I think it is a very old range from Thickers.

Instead of machine stitching I used a stitching stamp, which I stamped above and below the title.

Lastly I added some bakers-twine to the flags in the top right corner of the layout.  I also added a little tag I found somewhere in my stash, I added the date, 8 September 2013 to the tag.

Thank you for the visit!

CUT&PASTE TO A BEAUTIFUL LIFE

Friday, February 7, 2014

Hello ladies, it is Friday again, which means it time for another Project Life Inspired post over at Frosted Designs.

I have two single pages for you today.  Even though they will be next to one another in the album, I wanted to created separate layouts for the pictures.

The first layout is about the day we took Jonathan home from the hospital, and these are the only two pictures I have from that day.  I used bits and pieces from the My Mind's Eye - Cut&Paste collection, as well as some Project Life cards to which I added some journaling and embellishments.

The journaling reads:
After being in hospital for 3 nights, both you & mommy were able to go home on Friday, 7 September.
We dressed you warmly that day as it was a bit chilly.
Daddy came to fetch us at around 10h00.
We went home for the first time as a family!  You had your bottle & went to sleep for the first time in you own room & your own bed - what a champ you were!

Mommy slept a bit in the afternoon while daddy looked after you.
That night you had your fist visitors - Aunty Marine & Uncle Nick.

The second layout has pictures of Jonathan sleeping in his cot the following day, 8 September.  Here I also just had these two pictures.  I really love the contrast with the red and white, so wanted to use paper that emphasized that, hence my use of the Beautiful Life collection by Echo Park.

The journaling reads:
Mommy dressed you in a lovely white & red outfit when you woke up that morning.
Here you were taking a late morning nap.  In the afternoon mommy & daddy's friends came to visit, meet you & watch the Springboks play Nieu Zeeland.

BLACK WITH TWO FEBRUARY CHALLENGE

Thursday, February 6, 2014

Hello there, today I will be sharing the latest challenge over at Black with Two

The rules are VERY simple, use BLACK cardstock along with TWO colours from the mood board. to tantalize your creative MOJO.  The colours this month are HOT PINK & AQUA.  Along with that you must use the sketch as inspiration and included DREAM in your journaling.

Here is the sketch and the new mood board.

Here is my take on the challenge.

Originally I wanted to use on the aqua colours in my layout, but then I saw the cards from the Project Life Brush edition core kit and I decided to use a little bit of the pink colour as well.

I used the black cardstock as my background, as well as to matt my picture in.  Instead of using pattern paper to bring in the aqua and hot pink, I used the Project Life cards.

I used a bingo card with the word dream on as my title and added the bird rub-on, buttons and bling.

The little white heart I cut with my cuttlebug and the flowers I made with stamping and distress inks.

Thank you for stopping by and having a look!

SUPREME SCRAP TOURNAMENT 2014: CHALLENGE #1

Hello there,

I am writing from a cold and wet Johannesburg this afternoon (and by the sound of things, it will look like this the rest of the week).

http://sst.freeforums.net/

As mentioned last week, I sign-up to take part of the Supreme Scrap Tournament 2014, which has over 200 members from all over the world.  The challenge for round 1, went life on Saturday, here are the criteria:

Make a double layout or double mixed media project that shows where you live.  But it all has to be within 1000 steps from you home!!!!

  • You cannot use any spray ink!
  • You will have to use at least 3 photos on  your project (scrapbooking and mixed media!!)
  • You will have to add a visible journaling of at least 50 words.
Here is my layout and take on the challenge.

I used the Basic Grey Permisson collection along with plain cardstock on my layout.  The pictures are of our back garden and was take on 7 August 2012, when it snowed in Johannesburg, for the first time since September 1981.

My journaling reads:
We live in Joburg, South Africa and are not likely to get snow in the winter.  So you could imagine my surprise when snow fell on August, 7th 2012 @ 14:17 in the afternoon (3 weeks before the start of spring).  It was the heaviest fall we have had in Joburg, since September 1981.
With Jonathan due in less than a month, I was already on maternity leave (and therefore warmly covered in a blanket on the couch).  I still remember looking out the window and seeing snow falling.  At first I thought it was a mistake, but when I got up and looked out the lounge winder, it was white.  I was lucky enough to be able to have captured this day on camera with these pictures of our garden; so that one day we can tell Jonathan about the snow that fell only a few days before he arrived.

Here are some close-ups.

Instead of having some ink splashes, I "splashed" with some bling!

Thank you for the visit.
