FIRST SKETCH FOR THE DESIGN TEAM OF KEEPING THE BEST

Tuesday, February 28, 2012

I could not believe my eyes when I received an email last week telling me that I have been chosen to be part of the Design Team for Keeping the Best blog.  I was ecstatic!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Our very first duty for this DT was to make a layout with the following sketch,

Here is my take on the sketch I made for Keeping the Best,

Me, my husband, my mom and dad all went to the barnyard last week for a promotional show.  Prior to the start of the show they had a photobooth, where you could have your picture taken and then they print it for you immediately.  When I saw the sketch, I knew I wanted to use these pictures.  And luckily, the BoBunny, Welcome Home range also worked perfectly for both the pictures and the sketch.

I used a variety of embellishments - the brads and die-cuts are also from the BoBunny, Welcome Home collection; the flowers are all prima and for the title I used Enmarc chipboard.  The pearl doodles I made myself.  Here are some pictures of the detail:

Please head on over to Keeping the Best and have a go at the sketch and see what my fellow DT members came up with, as they are all VERY talented!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

SKETCH CHALLENGE NUMBER 2 ON SCRAP AFRICA

Friday, February 17, 2012

Good morning ladies, I trust you all had a wonderful Valentines Day and got spoilt rotten by your loved ones.

I cannot believe that the first sketch challenge on Scrap Africa is over, and boy what a huge success it was.  The ladies really went all out and made the loveliest layouts.  Congratulations to .............

So now it is time for our second sketch challenge.  Here is the sketch for this challenge.

Here is my take on the sketch.

The pictures in this layout are old pictures, with me on the left :-)  It was some or other baby competition that my mom entered me into and I came second :-)  The original pictures are in colour, but it has faded over the years, so I reprinted them in black and white.

The paper in this layout is from Fabscraps and the range is called Sugar and Spice.  Due to the fact that we had to use Fabscraps paper for this challenge, I had to find pictures and paper that matched.  I really enjoyed working with this range, it is such a fun range to work with!  Thank you Fabscraps!!!!!!!!

I did not want to over do the embellishing, so all I did was use some Prima flowers and butterflies that I had in my stash.  I also used some of the Sugar and Spice stickers and the little handbag is also from the same range.  When it came to the title, I used one of the tear-out pages from the Fabscraps range and used the heading as my title "Dear Diary".  I then just added a very nice rub-on to the rest of the page, so that it looks like a diary entry for that day.  The rub-on reads:

"Only as high as I REACH, can I GROW.
Only as far as I SEEK, can I GO.
Only as deep as I LOOK, can I SEE.
Only as much as I DREAM, can I BE."

Here are some close-ups of the embellishments.

Hope you enjoyed that!

LET'S SCRAP SKETCH 2-15-12

Thursday, February 16, 2012

Can you believe that Valentine's Day for 2012 is over????????????????????????????

Well that means it is Wednesday and over at Let's Scrap it is time for a card sketch designed by Debby de Wilde.

Here is my take on the card sketch this week.

Initially I had a bit of trouble with this sketch, but after looking at the sketch on more than one occasion, I finally got somewhere.  All the paper I used are from off cuts I had left over from the Kaisercraft Devonshire Collection.  The die cuts and the flowers were all from this collection as well.

This week's prize is sponsored by

Tucats Media is the publisher of CRAFTWISE.  Craftwise magazine appeared in the shops for the first time in 1998 with a stated objective of growing the South African craft sector and every issue of Craftwise is still put together with this in mind.  Published every two months, Craftwise does not focus on any single craft, rather covering every possible popular craft.  In it's ten plus years of existence, Craftwise has grown to become the recognized authoritative publication for the crafts sectors.

Here is the wonderful prize they are giving away!

So head on over to Let's Scrap and have a look!!!!!!

LET'S SCRAP SKETCH 2-1-12

Tuesday, February 14, 2012

Here is the first sketch that was posted for February, over at Let's Scrap.

And my take on the sketch.

I really enjoyed using this sketch and had no difficulty with it.  The pictures I found while rummaging through old albums the other day, in search of something else to scrap than the usual.  The pictures in the layout are of my sister's cat, Balou.  We found blue scarf at a toy store the one day and he was very happy to have us tie the scarf round his neck and take some pictures!!!!!!!!!!  All the pattern paper in the layout is from Fabscraps.  I used normal Basill cardstock as my background pages and the pictures I matted with core-dinates, when I sanded them the light blue came through.

Here are some pictures of the detail and embellishments.

The sponsor over at Let's Scrap was
Ormolu began in 2007 while I (Kaitlin) was attending college for interior design.  While working on assignments for my degree I realised I actually had more fun designing the presentations for my projects.  I knew this was the case when I spent far more time finding just the right font and perfecting my layout than looking for finishes and checking on building codes.  Additionally I was teaching at a local scrapbook store and started designing custom embellishments for my classes.

After graduation I decided to invest more time and energy into Ormolu rather than look for a career in Interior Design so that I could stay home with my children.  In 2009 I adapted a green philosophy and began using only recycled papers and implemented soy ink and wind power to create my products.  The products I design for my line have a tendency to cross the lines of stationary and scrapbooking as I have a deep love for the vast world of paper.

Often people ask why I chose the word Ormolu.  My initial planning stages of this adventure took place in a history of interior design class.  I was probably overwhelmed by the horrendous neon powerpoint my instructor subjected on us each day (seriously) and turned to my book as a distraction.  Ormolu is an interior design term meaning an object is glided with gold.  I was fond of the sound and how it reminded me of my Mema (that's my grandmother) and her affection for beautiful things, often gilded with gold.  You can stay up to date with both Ormolu and my day to day happenings on my blog.

Hope you enjoyed that.
